5 Simple Anti-Aging Habits Everyone Should Be Doing

Aging is a natural process, and there is no need to be afraid of it. But if there is a little chance to age gracefully, we all need to grab it.

Of course, various skin treatments can help us combat fine lines, wrinkles, and other external consequences of aging and make us look younger and fresher than we actually are. But the beauty that comes from within, the one backed up by a healthy lifestyle and habits, is worth so much more and lasts much longer.

Everyone gets to the point in their life when they start noticing fine lines appear on their face – around the eyes or outer corner of the mouth. Not the best feeling.

There are a few simple everyday habits that will help you reverse aging and look younger than your age. You may already be doing these simple things. If so, good for you! But if you are not, try to incorporate these things into your daily routine. Studies show that it takes 21 days to create a habit. Stick to these habits for three weeks, and you are most likely to persist in them for the rest of your life.

1.      Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.

Implementing a diet that comprises a lot of fruits and vegetables means that you are consuming a lot of antioxidants, healthy fats, and nutrients.

Numerous studies have shown that eating plants packed with a lot of healthy vitamins and minerals is the best and safest way to fight aging. The good thing is that you have a lot of options.

Of course, there are some fruits and vegetables that are more powerful when it comes to combating aging. They are usually packed with vitamins A, C, E and K, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and many other elements that contribute to the overall health of the body.

The best anti-aging fruits are blackberries, blueberries, and papaya. Vegetables that will help you to win the battle against aging are red bell pepper, Brussel sprouts, kale, eggplant, spinach, etc.

2.      Don’t forget the sunscreen!

If you are going to leave the house that day, remember to finish off your skincare routine with some broad-spectrum SPF. It will protect your skin from harmful UVB and UVA rays. There is a misconception among many people that there is no need to apply sunscreen when the sun is not out or if it is raining. You need to wear sunscreen in any case while it is daylight.

Studies have shown that sun rays primarily damage our skin. If you want to have fresh skin with as little lines and spots as possible, know that the sun is your number one enemy. A lot of fine lines, dark spots, and skin sagging are a result of not wearing sunscreen.

When choosing sun protection means, opt for the ones with SPF 30 or higher.

When doing your skincare and topping it off with sunscreen, never forget about your neck, chest, and hands. These body parts are as important as your face is.

Also, sunscreen is a weapon against screen cancer. So, try to get into the habit of using it on a daily basis.

3.      Drink plenty of water.

Water is truly the fountain of youth. Drinking an adequate amount of this liquid helps us look much fresher and healthier.

The human body is 60% water. When we do not drink enough water, our body starts to drain itself, and, as a result, our complexion looks dull, and the fine lines and wrinkles are more pronounced.

Studies have shown that people should drink 2 liters of water a day on average. Of course, the amount may vary from person to person, depending on their age, weight, and needs.

Water acts as a natural moisturizer for our skin. It makes us look more radiant and healthy. Our skin looks plumper with a sufficient amount of H2O in our body. As a result, fine lines become less noticeable. Additionally, staying hydrated contributes to skin rejuvenation – it helps our skin to repair itself at a faster pace.

Water also supports collagen. As you may know, collagen is the main structural protein of skin tissues, and it is what gives our skin elasticity and makes it less prone to wrinkling.

4.      Exercise.

Exercising two to three times a week can do wonders for you if you are trying to look and feel younger than your age.

Not only does regular physical activity make you feel much better and contribute to your health in general, but it also makes you look fresher and more glowy.

Exercising can help you slow down the process of aging, as it prevents dermis from thinning out. The dermis is the second layer of our skin. It is beneath the epidermis and is the layer that provides skin flexibility. On the other hand, exercising your body won’t let the outer layer of the skin – epidermis, get thicker.

So, exercising is a great habit that will not only make you feel young but also look young.

5.      Get good sleep.

If you are looking for ways to reduce and slow down skin aging but are not getting 6-8 hours of sleep a day, you will probably lose the battle against the years.

Our skin replenishes itself and rejuvenates while we are sleeping. While we are asleep, our blood flow increases, and skin cells start working on fine lines and dark spots. Get a good night’s sleep, and you will wake up with plump, juicy, and fresh skin.But if you are sleeping with your face into the pillow, you are making everything worse. Sleeping with you face down causes wrinkles and fine lines. If sleeping on your back is not an option, try to use silk pillowcases as they are more gentle and do not tug the skin.
